Stitch Fix Box No. 8!

Stitch fix is back!!!!!

Sadly, I don’t have pictures of me wearing the clothes for this installment, because Orchard House still doesn’t have a full-length mirror (bad me!), but I will talk you through what was in my box and how things went.

Next installment, I promise, pictures!

In this box, I had asked for maxi skirts that wouldn’t drown me, open cardigans, and whatever my stylist thought would work for me. I have a great stylist right now, so I trusted her! (That’s not always been the case….)

On to today’s contenders……

First up:

Kate Spade Sailor’s Knot Earrings, $48

This is generally my style of jewelry—classic and versatile—but I have a pair just like these, so I didn’t keep them. Also, they were $48, and that’s a little….high, for basic earrings.

Verdict: Returned

Item #2: Honey Punch Judee Ribbed Hooded Cardigans, $68

So, I loved this guy. First off, it’s navy blue, which is one of my signature colors. Second, it had pockets. Third, it’s very thick and warm, almost like wearing a big blanket, but it’s not entirely shapeless. The hood I could take or leave—I’m not a huge fan of hoods, but when it was down, it didn’t make the cardigan look silly (sometimes that happens). It’s long—it reached about mid-thigh, I think. So I could really wear it as outerwear, as opposed to one of the other pieces in this box. It looks great over jeans and gives a jeans/t-shirt combo some punch and interest.

Verdict: Kept!

Item #3: 41 Hawthorn Benny Surplice Mixed Media Blouse, $56

( I think that was the price—I edited them out of the photos and then I forgot to write them down. I’m a very bad fashion blogger today!)

Now, at first glance, this isn’t bad. I like the colors. It looks like it has potential. And in reality, it wasn’t bad on me.

There were a few problems, though, that you really can’t see here:

One, there’s a little camisole thing build in to this. That’s nice. But then you get this weird gap area between the white collar and the camisole start point. When you bend over, there’s going to be some cleavage/bra showing. Not badly, but enough.

Second, and you really can’t see this here, but the fabric in the front is two pieces. It’s very billowy. And that’s not bad, but it’s also not really what I want. I don’t like billowy things around my middle.

Also, I have bizarre shoulders, so to wear this, I’d have to wear a strapless bra, unless I wore it with a cardigan over it, which was a thought, but I didn’t really love it that way.

Verdict: Returned

Item #4: Staccato Daruka V-Neck Pull Over, $44

I loved this guy. I love pullovers and sweaters. The v-neck wasn’t super low, it was just low enough to be flattering. The sweater wasn’t super-clingy, either. It’s very soft, and it’s more of a warm brown taupe then you see here, so it looks great with the white. It can be dressed up or down—worn with jeans or with black pants. I can also accessorize it with a lot of color, like a pretty scarf or earrings. (I have a bright pink scarf that will look fabulous with this.) And I can also wear it with skirts.

Verdict: Kept!

Item #5: Pink Clover Kaia Textured Curved Cardigan, $44

(Unbeknownst to me, my sister in law has this same cardigan. That’s too funny.)

This is a really lovely cardigan, in a cider/pumpkin-ish color, which I don’t have a lot of in my closet. It looks great over any of my neutral tees (white, gray, navy), and it’s perfect for throwing over a dress to wear to church, or to wear with a skirt and a shirt. I could dress this up or down. It’s soft, but not as heavy as the blue one, and it also has pockets. :) Also I love the curved quality of it, which gives my body a little more shape to the eye. It’s got the dropped sleeve seams, which give it some additional interest as well.

Verdict: Kept!

So as you can see, this was a good fix. I really liked everything in it, but it was a question of what I needed and what the budget could afford right now. (There is a 25% discount if you keep everything in your fix, but in this case I’d have to get four items to make this work, and I really couldn’t justify the Hawthorn top or the earrings on their own.)

Stitch Fix Is Back!

I know some of you have been asking about my Stitch Fix posts, and they’re back! Yay! I forgot to do one for my April fix, because it came right after I got back from Denver. Actually, it had come while I was in Denver so I had to hurry up and try things on! So no time for photos. But it was a good fix and I kept two things from it.

This fix was even better—I kept everything! Yay!

If you’re new here, Stitch Fix is a personal styling service. Here’s how it works:

So, this time, I was sent outfits, really. It was the normal five pieces, but they seemed to break into three pretty clear outfits—two tops, two skirts, and a dress.

I still don’t have a full-length mirror here at Orchard House, so I persuaded my dad to take the photos. Hence, the quality is…..iffy. (I love my dad, and he has taken some really good photos, but it’s not his favorite thing to do.) I’m wearing my Maritime Navy Rothy’s with everything. (And yes, I LOVE Rothy’s, they’re much better than Tieks—more comfortable and you can wash them!)

Outfit #1:

41 Hawthorne Eliee Lace Detail Mixed Material Blouse, $54.00

French Grey Rani Brushed Knit Skirt $44.00

So, first off, this skirt has POCKETS. That made me love it right away. It’s also really soft material and in a different print—I don’t have anything with these colors, at all. I loved it with the blue top, which could be worn with jeans, or with skirts, and if I throw a cardigan over it, it can go to church or anywhere professional. Also, the fun detailing keeps it looking fresh and unique.

Outfit #2

41 Hawthorn Ezide Textured Print Top, $58.00

Colette Mali Brushed Knit Skirt, $44.00

This is probably my favorite outfit of the three. I love this coral-pink color and the skirt is, of course, awesome. (Can you tell I love a good skirt?) Again, this top can be dressed up or down, and the skirt can be as well—I could wear a t-shirt with it, or something dressier like this.

Verdict: Kept!

Outfit #3

41 Hawthorn Neal Dress, $68.00

OK, so OBVIOUSLY, the first thing here is, I Need a different bra. OR I need to wear a cardigan over this.

But, that obvious note aside, I did like this. I didn’t think I would, but I did. I have a cardigan (from J. Crew years ago) that will work over this until I find a proper bra. But this is a fun, lightweight summer dress that is unique enough to stand out and yet classic enough to wear it places without feeling like a fashion victim. (Does that make sense?)

Verdict: Kept

If you’re an old hand at these posts, you know that you get a 25% discount if you keep all the items in your fix. So, even though at first I wasn’t nuts about the dress, it was worth it to keep it, because it was essentially free. The $20 styling fee is deducted from the price of what you keep, as well.

I was really pleased with this fix. My stylist has been hitting it out of the park lately, so I’m very pleased with that.

Stitch Fix Box Number 6: A New Stylist, and Emily Changes Her Mind

It's time for the Fashion Show! If you're new here and you're not sure what Stitch Fix is, go here to read about it. 

As you may remember, my last Stitch Fix box was....not great. As a result, I got a new stylist for round number six.

When I saw the preview, I was NOT HAPPY. I am really clear on the types of things I like, and I'm very clear on the types of things I don't. Two things I said I didn't want were skinny jeans and cold-shoulder tops. 

And what did I get in this box? Skinny jeans and a cold-shoulder kimono.

Cue the sighs.

However, I changed my mind on one of these pieces....read on!

Number 1: Pale Sky Yaya Embroidered Detail Top, $58

So I had asked for some summer tops because I don't really have that many short-sleeved tops, I'd realized. I wanted something sort of fun. So this and the next piece were the answers to that request.

I loved this color, but it was a little short. It it was a tiny bit longer, it would've been better. Plus, the buttons were a little flimsy and I could see them popping off (they're hidden under the placket) without much provocation. 

Verdict: Returned. 

Number 2: Skies Are Blue Airika Woven Lace Front Knit Top, $48

This one I didn't think I was going to like, but I did! I really liked the soft fabric and the detailing.

However....I liked two other pieces better, so, sadly, this on was returned. It wasn't special enough to make the cut in this box.

Verdict: Returned

Number 3: Kut from the Kloth Candace Split Hem Skinny Jeans, $78

And this is where Emily eats crow.

Not only did these fit, but they were comfortable! I mean, they fit better than my regular jeans do! And I loved the pop of color, which is also weird for me, because I usually don't like colored pants. 

So I really wasn't sure what had happened to me....but I really loved these guys. I tried them with one of my staple striped tops, and I liked that even better than when it was paired with the white top from the Fix.

I loved these so much that I really just had to keep them. I mean, they are so fun. 

Verdict: Kept! (Crow eaten!) 

Number 4: Max Studio Ilaria Open Kimono, $54

Top: J Crew 1988 tank top in navy 

I has asked for a kimono, and I received two in this box. The first one was a cold shoulder one that didn't even fit--it squeezed my arms unattractively and was just awful, so you're not going to see that. But this one I really liked. 

I loved the fun colors and the lightweight fabric, and I could see it going over a variety of tops very easily, as well as even serving as a robe when I travel. 

I also just love Japanese culture and dress, so, come on. I have to have a kimono. It's just too much fun. 

Verdict: Kept!

So, this box was a lot better than I had expected it to be! I was thrilled with the two items I kept and if the budget had allowed it I probably would've kept the white top, too. So this new stylist has a lot going for her and I hope the trend continues.

OK, so let's talk about this month. 

First off, I wasn't too thrilled with my stylist this time. I wasn't last time, either, really. You'll see why in a second, but I just wanted to say that, going in, I was not best pleased with what my stylist had sent me. 

I had asked for two things: a kimono--because I love this trend--and some tops, because I don't have a lot of good summer tops.I wanted more casual or versatile tops, and maybe I wasn't clear enough there. But...let's get to the clothes. 

Number 1: 41 Hawthorn Prinsloo Ruffle Neck Blouse, $58

OK, this isn't terrible. It's a little pale for me--with my skin tone, it's really easy for me to look washed out. My biggest problem with this was how sheer it is. You can see my belly button! Also, it's a little fancier than I'd normally wear for day to day stuff. 

Verdict: Returned. 

Number 2: Skies are Blue Bradie Embroidery Front Knit Top, $54

This one I loved. I love the intricate embroidery, the colors, the lovely fabric, and the fact that I could easily dress this up or down. The lace in the back also camouflages my bra, but if I wore this out to church I'd just toss a cardigan over it. Since there are so many colors in the top,  I can pick a bunch of cardigans from my closet to go with this. Home run. 

Verdict: KEPT

Number 3: 19 Cooper Nicole Flutter Sleeve Wrap Blouse, $58

I originally really liked this. I love wrap dresses so I thought a nice wrap top in a fun color? Yes!

Sadly, every time I moved my arms, you could see my bra. Like really see it. The tiny snap that was supposed to keep it closed didn't do its job at all.

Verdict: Returned

Number 4: Collective Concepts Talmadge Tie Front Cotton Top, $58

This was where I started to lose patience with my stylist. I have said many times that I don't want attention drawn to my middle. And that's all that this shirt does. Also, I would never wear something like this, ever. I don't wear shirts with crazy parrot prints; I don't live in Margaritaville. 

Verdict: Returned

Number 5: A Romper

You're not even going to see this one on me. 

When I saw this, I was SO displeased. I had told my stylist I do not wear shorts. I don't wear anything really revealing. This was shorts, and revealing, and so unflattering! I tried it on quickly and saw how awful it was. 

This is where I got upset and was pretty blunt in my review. I rated this a "hate it"--I hated everything about this. You can rate your clothes when you check out. Your options are hate it, it's OK, like it, love it. I HATED this. You use the same criteria to rate fit and style. This way, the stylist learns what you liked and didn't like about each piece, hopefully to apply that knowledge in the future!

Honestly, this fix was not really me at all--and that's another question they ask. I had given this stylist three tries to get it right, and she hadn't really. So when I rated it a two, and they asked me why, I said because my stylist didn't listen to me. 

Fortunately, the next screen then told me that I was getting a new stylist next time. I also received an email this morning saying they were sorry for the bad fit, and that they hoped the next one would be better. 

I hope so too, Stitch Fix. Just to be sure, I went through my profile and made sure it was VERY clear about what I like and don't like. And it is! I hope that my new stylist reads it, and looks at my very detailed pinterest page! 

So, I'm glad that Stitch Fix heard me and responded to my criticism by reassigning me immediately. But we'll see what the June box has in store for me. 

(In case you're curious, here's a list of things I will not wear: 

• stilettos
• shorts
• anything that doesn't allow me to wear a bra
• ponchos
• dolman sleeves
• pencil skirts
• blazers (I hate the way I look in them, but I love how people wear them!)
• anything yellow. (I look terrible in yellow)
• Anything ripped/distressed
• Cold shoulder tops

Basically, if Duchess Kate isn't wear it, neither will I. (Except the shoes. I am in awe of how she can walk down airplane steps, holding a baby, in 3" heels. In awe.)

It's Stitch Fix Time!!!!!!

I've switched to an every other month Fix schedule, so that's why it's been awhile since we've had one (December, in fact!). But I am always excited to share my latest box with you guys!

When the box arrives, it's time for the fun--trying on pieces. This is where I think Stitch Fix has a leg up over normal shopping. Since the box is shipped to you, you have your entire wardrobe at your disposal when you get these pieces. You can see right away if the things that were sent work with items you already have! You don't have to stand in the dressing room and think, "Do I have anything that will go with this? How will this look with my favorite heels? Do I already have things in this color?" 

So, with all that out of the way, here's what I got in my box this time!

Number 1: Hawthorne 41 Poppi Textured Pullover sweater, $68

Styled with White House Black Market jeans (check out the length! They fit! :-P), and Clarks flats

This isn't a bad sweater. Generally I really like the Hawthorn 41 line (it's one of Stitch Fix's exclusive brands). However, I didn't feel this color did anything for me, and it was sort of meh on. 

(You will see this again with another item, per the stylist's suggestion.) 

Verdict: Returned

Items Numbers 2 & 3: Mauvette Middleton Ponte Dress, $58, and Mia Pecora D'orsay Flats, $48

Here's what you need to know about my feet: I have terrible ones. I have pretty high arches, plus BIG bunions. Not little bunions. Big ones. Huge. Not bad enough to require surgery, but not far off, either. So pointy toed shoes with no support are not shoes I can wear, no matter how cute they are. And these shoes were cute. But I can never wear them. I will say I did like the style of shoe, with the strap around the ankle, which I didn't think I would like. 

This dress was very nice. It was well-constructed, and I liked the scallop detailing and the color. But I was looking for dresses for my brother's wedding, and this dress is one I would've worn if I still worked in the Senate and the General Assembly was in session--this is a "session dress". Conservative and lady-like. Which is fine, it's just not what I need most of the time anymore. And when I do, I have dresses like this. 

Verdict on both: Returned

Item Number 4: Wisp Cleo Textured Knit Dress, $88

Now, this was a fun dress. Still had the scallop detail at the neck, has a twirly skirt, and is speckled with flecks of ocean blue, coral, and white, which make it an acceptable dress to wear to a wedding (Normally I NEVER wear black to a wedding. But this had enough color.). It's very comfortable and flattering. But is it fancy enough for my brother's wedding? I don't know. It is a lot of fun, though. I would wear it as a guest at a wedding, for sure. But....I think accessories will amp it up. The right jewelry, a bright colored cardigan for the ceremony (the bolero jacket type), shoes.....

In any case, this dress will be great for going out. I could even wear it for Easter or something. It's really fun and very much my style. 

Verdict: KEPT

Item Number 5: Margaret M Deandra Skirt, $78

I have had TONS of luck with Margaret M. I had two other skirts from them (see my past fixes!), and I love them. They are all different, too. This one is more like starched cotton with some stretch, so it'll be great for spring and summer. And the colors are amazing. There's taupe gray, white, pale pink, navy blue, ocean blue, a deep turquoise, orange....it's just fabulous.

Verdict: KEPT

I had a $50 gift card from Christmas, so that went a long way in deciding what to keep. I was a little disappointed in this Fix, because I had wanted all dresses for my brother's wedding, and I told my stylist that. So this was a bit of a downer. I do like the clothes I got--it just wasn't what I was particularly in need of. 

My next Fix is schedule to come right before my birthday in April, so we'll see what goodies are there!

OK, weird face, but it does show the shaping of the dress the best. 

It is becoming a trend that the one thing in my box I'm iffy about ends up being the thing I absolutely adore. This dress was the "iffy" thing this time, but I love it! It's a lovely mullberry color and instead of making me look ridiculous, it makes me look like I have a waist--which I do, now, yay!

This isn't a winter dress, although if it's not too cold, I could wear this with tights and boots. I styled it as I would for the other three seasons. 

The bag is too cute. It's rose gold, and I love that the strap can come off so the bag can be carried as a clutch. It matches the metal on the dress buttons, too, and compliments my shoes!

Item Number Three: 41 Hawthorn Keefe Fitted Ribbed Turtleneck Sweater

Item Number Four: Margaret M Deandra Textured A-line Skirt

In my first fix, I received a Margaret M skirt that I adored, so I was excited to get another skirt from that line! I wasn't so sure about the turtleneck, because I am SUPER picky about turtles. I have a scar on my neck that doesn't like to be touched too much, and it doesn't like any scratchy textures near it. Just thinking about that gives me the willies. So I don't have many turtlenecks (read: any) because, while they're a basic wardrobe staple, I Have Requirements that Must Be Met. 

The turtleneck is black, and the skirt is teal with black design on it. It almost feels like a brocade; it has that sort of texture to it. The skirt fits a little more like a pencil than a true A-line, probably because of the heavier fabric. 

Yes, my jeans are long. They're actually too big now, too. A good problem to have, but it means I DESPERATELY need a new pair! 

I ended up liking the turtleneck. It's very soft, and yes, I have to roll the arms, but I have to do that with just bout every top I have, because, I have little arms like a T. Rex, which we've covered before. So I don't really take that into account when looking at clothes, unless it's something that can't be rolled, like a coat or a jacket.

Turtleneck verdict: Kept

The skirt grew on me. I really liked how it looked with the turtleneck, and it's a great color. So, I kept it. The nice thing about Stitch Fix is, if you keep everything in your fix, you get 25% off the total. So it was actually cheaper for me to keep the skirt than to keep only four items. Cool, huh? 

Skirt verdict: Kept

Item Number Five: Good Hyouman Lizzie Best Day Ever Graphic Knit Top

Well you know I kept this guy. :) But I had actually asked for a piece like this. I don't have a lot of "comfy clothes" that can keep me warm that aren't raggedy crap. So I wanted soemthign I could wear around the house when I'm working, but that doesn't look like pajamas in case I have to go out somewhere. This fits the bill. It's got an almost flannel texture, and I'm wearing it with leggings right now as I write this (the leggings are New Balance for J. Crew, if you're wondering. Navy blue. Pockets!)

Verdict: Kept!

So this was the first fix where I kept all five items. And having a gift card from my sister definitely helped. It would've been hard to choose what to send back otherwise! This was definitely a nice Christmas Box of Surprises, full of staples I'll wear for a long time to come.

Stitch Fix Number Two

Yes, my fashion friends, it is time for Stitch Fix! (If you don't care about fashion, go read Catholic 101 instead. ) 

This is my second Stitch Fix box. If you're new, hop over here to see what Stitch Fix is and what it's about in detail. But in brief, it's a personal styling service. You fill out a very detailed style profile, pay $20, and a stylist will personally select five pieces based on your preferences and what you've told her you'd like to see. (You don't have to do the stylist note, but it helps!) The $20 is taken off whatever you keep from the Fix. After the Fix is styled, it's sent to you, and you try on all the pieces in the comfort of your own home, with your entire wardrobe at your disposal! 

So this time, I had asked to try another striped top, some more cardigans, and a scarf in the seasonal favorite berry color. I love a good scarf! Above, you can see what I was sent in this month's box. So, without further ado....

Item Number 1: Crescent Leeanne Textured Knit Dress, $68

Since my brother is getting married in the spring, I've kept a note in my style profile that I'd love to see dresses for that. And I just love a good dress anyway! This is a knit dress, which has some lovely stretch, and a fuller skirt than the dress in my last fix, which I love. This dress is great on its own, but when it's kicked up a notch....

Then it really becomes special, to me. That's the great thing about this dress. It's so versatile. So this is now my Christmas outfit. 

Styled with: black patent leather Mary Janes (for that Downton Abbey vibe), red merino Banana Republic cardigan, and Touchstone Crystal earrings. 

A better look at the earrings I wore--the middle pair. The top is J.Crew, the middle and bottom are Touchstone Crystal. These are my earrings, but Stitch Fix does also style jewelry!

You can probably guess the verdict on this one. :)

Number Two: Colette Chavez Pop Color Cuff Knit Top, $48

I love a good striped top, and I love the colors in this one. However, it's a really thin fabric (you can see my jeans through the top in that second photo), and it's also the type of fabric that snags easily. I know I'll snag it on something and ruin it. Plus, it's so clingy that it makes me look rounder than I am.

Number 3: Dreamers/Debut Barton Cable Trim Cocoon Cardigan $58

 

When I first saw this in my Fix, I thought, ehhhh. I sort of have a cardigan like this. 

I was so wrong. 

This guy is so soft, with intricate little details tucked in the ribbing that make it really stand out. It's long and feels like a hug when you put it on. Really, it does! I can fit t-shirts under it without weird lines happening, which makes this very versatile for turning my summer t-shirts into things I can wear in the fall and winter without freezing. And I love the shaping at the bottom.

Number 4: Market & Spruce Marcello Cable Knit Cardigan $78

This guy was just...too too. We had the "Little arms" problem again here--I had to roll the cuffs, which is fine, but the other problem is how low the cardigan hits, and how the buttons draw eyes RIGHT to my middle, which is not really where I want eyes. It was very warm and I loved the color (I'm a sucker for gray!), but, sadly, not for me.

Verdict: Returned

Number Five: Octavia Russo Plaid Reversible Infinity Scarf, $34 

I love the colors of this scarf. However...I feel like it's eating my head! If this had been a regular scarf I would've kept it, because it has great potential for being a great accessory. However, it was so big that it's only real purpose would've been to keep me warm if I was going to a Packers game in December, and I have my Hufflepuff scarf to do that for me already! 

Verdict: Returned

And now, for TIPS and FAQs. 

You do not have to receive a fix every month. You can receive one every 2-3 weeks, every month, every other month, quarterly...there's a bunch of ways to set it up! There is NO obligation to buy another box after your first one--it's completely up to you. I have heard that it can take two boxes to get you and your stylist to jell. (Christine and I are on the save wavelength, which I adore.) You can also adjust your Fix shipment schedule at any time.

My Tips for Getting a Great Fix

1. Be VERY specific when filling out your Style Profile. I wrote things like "I hate pencil skirts, distressed/ripped items, dolman sleeves, and stilettos." I also dislike skinny jeans and ponchos, so I wrote that as well. I also noted that my brother is getting married in the spring, so I'd like to see spring dresses, and that I love flats and A-lines. 

In addition, you can write a note to your stylist after you schedule a fix. I wrote I'd like to try v-neck cardigans again, and see things that I can wear to holiday gatherings. I'd also like to see a scarf or two, since I love to accessorize with them. And what did I get in this Fix? Those things. :) Christine is really awesome that way. Of course you don't have to do this. But if there are specific things you want to try or need in your wardrobe, it's worth doing. 

2. Do a Pinterest board. Here is mine, and you can see, my stylist definitely looked at it! If you don't have Pinterest, it's worth it to get it just to do this board. If you type in "women's fashion" in the search bar, five million pins will come up. I love how Duchess Kate dresses, so she figures in a lot of my pins. I have a fairly classic, pretty style, and that's reflected in what I've pinned. Take the time to do it; it's fun, anyway. At least I thought so. Also put "Stitch Fix" in the title, so if the link is wonky, your stylist can still find it. 

3. Do not lie about your measurements. Come on, ladies. Put your real weight, your real bra size, your real height. Just be honest. :) And update it! If you've lost or gained weight, put that in there. Always give the most recent information so you can get your best fix. This also applies to the Pinterest board--keep it current. If you search "Stitch Fix" on Pinterest, you'll get lots of ideas and see items that Stitch Fix has, so your stylist can pull them for you (if it's available)! 

So that's box number two in the books! The next one will be in December or January--I haven't decided yet. :) 

My First Stitch Fix Box--An Honest Review and Tips

I've been curious about Stitch Fix for awhile, but my size prevented me from giving it a try. But since April I've lost 27 pounds, and I finally decided that the time was right to give this a whirl. If it was all terrible, well, at least I knew it wasn't for me, and I was out $20. But I was really intrigued by the idea of a stylist picking clothes for me. 

So what is Stitch Fix? It's a styling service. Here's how the site describes it: 

Stitch Fix is an online styling service that delivers a truly personalized shopping experience, just for you. Fill out your Style Profile and a personal stylist will hand pick pieces to fit your tastes, needs and budget—and mail them directly to your door. Each box contains five items of clothing, shoes and accessories for you to try on at home. Keep what you love, send the rest back in a prepaid USPS envelope. Shipping and returns are free—even for exchanges!

The Style Profile is really detailed--it's just not stuff like your weight and height. They want to know as much about you and your style as possible, from how much skin you like to show, to your proportions, and what kind of trends and styles you'd like to try. You can even set a price range for individual categories and ask them not to send certain things. For example, in my Style Profile, I ask for no bracelets, rings, or just about any type of shoe other than a flat or heel. 

There's also a place to add a link to your Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest Style Board, so your stylist can get a feel for what you like. Finally, there's the "style note", where you can ask for specific items, talk about events that are coming up (I mentioned my brother's wedding in the spring), or generally discuss your style or anything you'd like to see in the box. 

So, after you fill out the Style Profile, you will pay $20 as a styling fee. This is taken off any items you decide to keep in your Fix, so I look at it as a down payment on whatever's in the box. Keep in mind that a real person will personally select all five items that come in your box for you, based on what you've told him/ her. 

When the box arrives, it's time for the fun--trying on pieces. This is where I think Stitch Fix has a leg up over normal shopping. Since the box is shipped to you, you have your entire wardrobe at your disposal when you get these pieces. You can see right away if the things that were sent work with items you already have! You don't have to stand in the dressing room and think, "Do I have anything that will go with this? How will this look with my favorite heels? Do I already have things this color?" To me, that was huge. I'll explain more in a second, when we get to the pictures. 

(A word about the photos: This was my first time doing this, so they're not great. I'm sorry. They will improve in future Stitch Fix posts, I promise!!)

So, here's what comes in your box: 

Five items are in every box. Along with that, you get a pre-paid USPS envelope (A BIG one) that you use to send back whatever you don't want. It's already labeled, all you have to do is put the clothes you don't want in and drop it in the mail box! You also get a note from your stylist, as well as style cards for each item in your Fix. The style cards show two styling ideas for each item. 

As you can see from my note, my stylist, Christine, went above and beyond! She looked at my Pinterest board, and read my notes, and took them seriously! Three of the items I received were directly based on what I asked for, and the other two are totally my style. 

So, here go the clothes: 

Item Number 1: Pixley Greenich Striped Knit Top $48 

I love a good Breton top, which is evident on my Pinterest page, so Christine knew what she was doing when she sent me this! It was heavy, almost sweater-like weight, so it's not just a t-shirt. It was very comfortable and soft, and I loved it--except....

Elbow patches that weren't elbow patches. These are more like forearm patches on me, because the sleeves were too long--I have short arms--so it didn't work the way it was supposed to work, and made the shirt look too big. I loved this item, except for those dang patches!

(Styled with my Talbots jeans--so many jeans are long on me, and I should've rolled the cuffs, but I was in a hurry to show gorgeous clothes to everyone! The earrings are Silpada studs.) 

Verdict: Returned

Item Number 2: 41 Hawthorn Nadia Cargo Rain Jacket $78

This was an item I specifically asked for, and I love it! I love the navy color and the whimsy of the polka dots. The coat also has a hood, and an adjustable waist, so you can cinch it however you want.

The coat has a lovely soft liner and great pockets, so I knew this was a keeper. It's going to be one of my favorite pieces!

Item Number 3: Pixley Selena Faux Leather Detail Cardigan $64

I love a cardigan. I do. Especially a lovely, soft, v-neck cardigan. However....

Sadly, I am like the T.Rex in Meet The Robinsons: 

So as much as I loved this one, it was a no go.

Item Number 4: Margaret M Kayla Skirt $64

This was another item I asked for specifically--a jersey skirt. I hate pencil skirts and like A-lines, full skirts, anything that's not a pencil. Christine saw that and sent this one accordingly!

I styled it two ways:

This is with a J. Jill white camisole and a Banana Republic red v-neck cardigan (very lightweight so it's a great layering piece).

I adore this skirt. I love that I can interchange it with so many things--I even have a navy blue cashmere sweater from J. Crew that will look fabulous with this. I can wear it with flats, or I could wear it with tights and heels or my boots. This is a total winner!

Verdict: Kept!

Item Number 5: Pixley Millie Textured Knit Dress $58

This was the one item in my fix that I was sort of nervous about. I love dresses, but it can be hard for me to find one that looks good on me. However, I was so excited to see this navy blue and white piece! And it is, by far, the most popular item in this Fix, according to my Facebook and Instagram friends: 

The white part is sort of fuzzy--very soft, and the navy blue detail around the neck is mesh, but it works! This dress is going to be great for so many things--Easter, wedding rehearsal, bridal showers, etc. I'm so excited to wear it! 

I didn't take photos--bad blogger--but I tried this with my red cardigan from the previous item as well as a J. Crew navy blue cardigan I had, and both were winners. This dress could be styled up or down, depending. I could wear pearls with it, or a more casual necklace; I could wear my gold Sperries or my favorite patent leather black heels. I love a good mix and match piece. And this dress was so comfortable!

Verdict: Kept! 

I would've kept everything in my Fix, if not for those pesky elbow patches. If you keep all five items, you get 25% off your order! But those patches were my downfall, so those pieces went back.
